The Charlotte Bobcats want a little more from their rookies

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Rookie Reports by alleyoop on Wednesday 21 May 2008 at 9:31 am

The Bobcats drafted two forwards last season and the results were mixed. Jared Dudley got some playing time in the 2nd half of the season and he played pretty well. He played in 73 games (14 starts) for the Bobcats this season and he averaged 19.0 minutes, 5.8 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game. With veterans ahead of him the Bobcats just hope that Dudley can continue to contribute off the bench.

Jermareo Davidson wasn’t near as good as Dudley was this season. He played in 38 games (2 starts) for the Bobcats last season and he averaged 8.5 minutes, 3.2 points, 1.6 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game. Don’t look for Davidson to get big minutes for the Bobcats any time soon.

The Charlotte Bobcats should start letting their rookies play a little bit more

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Rookie Reports by alleyoop on Sunday 2 March 2008 at 12:01 pm

With the Bobcats season going down the tubes they should let their rookies play more and see what they have in them. Jared Dudley has played pretty well when given the chance to play. He has played in 49 games (9 starts) so far this season for the Bobcats and he is averaging 14.4 minutes, 4.8 points, 3.3 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game. Dudley has shot 48.9% from the floor this season as most of his shots are from close range. He does need to improve his free throw shooting as he’s only converted 68.3% of them. Jermareo Davidson has spent some time in the D-League but the Bobcats should see what he can do as they don’t have much to lose right now. Davidson has played in 23 games this season for the Bobcats and he is averaging 8.7 minutes, 3.3 points, 1.7 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game. He has not shot well from either the floor (39%) or the free throw line (65%) and that will need to improve if he wants to get more playing time.

The Charlotte Bobcats are pleased with their rookies so far

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Rookie Reports,Uncategorized by alleyoop on Thursday 27 December 2007 at 12:56 pm

Forwards Jared Dudley and Jermareo Davidson have both played decent so far as rookies and they both appear to have nice upsides to their games. Dudley has played in 23 games so far this season and he is averaging 13.7 minutes, 4.7 points, 3.4 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game. Dudley could be ready to play more minutes as he has handled the pro game pretty well so far. Jermareo Davidson also has played decent in his limited time on the court this season. Davidson has played in 14 games so far this season and he is averaging 7.3 minutes, 2.8 points, 1.6 rebounds and 0.2 assists per game.

The Charlotte Bobcats rookies earn a C+

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Rookie Reports by alleyoop on Friday 20 April 2007 at 8:36 am

I would have given the Bobcats a higher grade if Adam Morrison wasn’t such a bad basketball player. Morrison is softer than a roll of Charmin. He played in 78 games last season and he averaged 29.8 minutes, 11.8 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. His shooting always wasn’t as good as advertised as he shot 37.6% from the floor and he hit 33.7% from three-point range. He looks like he’s nothing more than a backup player in the future for the Bobcats. Walter Herrmann was everything the Bobcats expected out of Morrison. In 48 games he averaged 19.5 minutes, 9.2 points, 2.9 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game. He also was a deadeye shooter as he hit 52.7% from the floor and 46.1% from three-point range. Herrmann could be a future starter or 6th man for the Bobcats as they made a nice pick with him. Center Ryan Hollins only played in 27 games and he averaged 6.9 minutes, 2.4 points and 1.1 rebounds per game. Hollins shot 55.6% from the floor but most of his shots were putbacks and dunks.

Rookie Walter Herrmann playing really well lately for the Charlotte Bobcats

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Rookie Reports,Steppin Up by alleyoop on Tuesday 10 April 2007 at 11:38 am

Walter Herrmann has moved into the starting lineup due to injury and he hasn’t looked back. He’s started 7 games the last two weeks and he’s averaged 18.4 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. Herrmann has also shot really well from the floor as he’s hit 58.9% the last two weeks. Herrmann is everything the Bobcats thought they were getting with first round pick Adam Morrison.

The Bobcats rookies get a passing grade…..barely.

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Rookie Reports by alleyoop on Tuesday 27 March 2007 at 6:38 pm

The reason I give the Bobcats a passing grade on their rookie crop is because Walter Herrmann is really playing good since the Cats have started giving him extended playing time. He’s looks like he’ll be a better basketball player than Adam Morrison will be.  Herrmann has only played in 37 games and he’s only averaged 14.2 minutes on the court but he’s averaging 6.1 points and 2.1 rebounds per game. Herrmann has hit 27 three pointers and he’s shooting 48% from the floor. Morrison has averaged 30.9 minutes per game this season in 71 games and he’s averaging 12.3 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. Morrison seems to be afraid of contact and often just stands out by the three point line where he has made 81 3 pointers. Still, he’s not been the player the Bobcats envisioned him to be when they drafted him in the first round. Center Ryan Hollins hasn’t gotten to play much this season. He has played in 21 games and he’s averaged only 7.2 minutes, 2.9 points and 1.0 rebound per game. It’s been hard to evaluate him because he hasn’t got to play too much.

Adam Morrison continuing to fire up bricks

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Need to step up,Rookie Reports by alleyoop on Sunday 11 March 2007 at 8:10 pm

Adam Morrison has shown no improvement as a player over his rookie season. He’s only shot 37.2% over his last seven games and he’s averaging 11.6 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game. With all the injuries the Bobcats have had they really needed Morrison to step up his game but he hasn’t come through for them.

Bobcats draft has been a little disappointing so far

Blogged under Front Page,Rookie Reports by Nothing but Net on Saturday 3 February 2007 at 6:18 pm

Adam Morrison came into the reputation as a scorer and he got Michael Jordan’s praise when he was drafted by the Bobcats….but he has not played well.  Morrison can only hit a shot if he’s left wide open and NBA Defenses have adjusted by putting a hand in his face at all times. He has only hit 37.9% of his shots from the floor and only 32.9% from three-point range. Morrison has played in 46 games and is averaging 13.4 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. He also is having big problems on defense because he’s not that fast. He’s starting to remind me of Danny Ferry and that’s not a good thing for the Bobcats.

Forward Walter Herrman hasn’t got much playing time but he’s played well when he’s gotten the chance. He’s played in 15 games and is averaging 10.7 minutes, 4.4 points, 1.4 rebounds and 0.1 assists per game. He will get better with experience.

Center Ryan Hollins hasn’t gotten much playing time this season. He’s played in 8 games and is averaging 8.7 minutes, 3.1 points and 1.3 rebounds.

Adam Morrison is struggling

Blogged under Front Page,Rookie Reports by Nothing but Net on Tuesday 12 December 2006 at 11:49 pm

The Bobcats basically had a one player draft. Adam Morrison is having a rough time adjusting to the speed of the NBA game. Morrison has played in 20 games and has averaged 34.5 minutes, 13.2 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. Morrison is only hitting 36.5% of his shots from the floor and he’s also having defensive trouble.

Walter Herrman has only played in 3 games but he’s flashed potential. He has averaged 13.6 minutes, 4.7 points, 1.7 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game.

Ryan Hollins has yet to play in a game.

The Bobcats whole draft hinges on Morrison’s ability to improve as the season goes on.
