Michael Jordan is officially the majority owner of the Charlotte Bobcats

Blogged under Big Bobcats News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General by Andrew on Friday 19 March 2010 at 5:18 pm

Michael Jordan is now the majority owner of the Charlotte Bobcats after spending $275 million (80% ownership) and being approved by the NBA’s Board of Governors on April 17th.  He is now the first former player to own an NBA franchise.  Jordan is the greatest player to ever play the game, winning six NBA Championships and five MVPs, while also spreading the popularity of the game across the globe.  Will Jordan’s basketball ability and knowledge correlate over to him being a good owner?  In my mind, I think it will.  Jordan was not only one of the greatest basketball talents to ever play, but also one of the fiercest competitors.  His drive to win will motivate him to put the time and money (which he has a lot of) into this club to try and make them the best they can be.  He is now the face of the franchise, and he has always been a winner, so I don’t see why he can’t continue to help improve the Bobcats’ franchise.  At the very least, Jordan is bringing some excitement to a club that is estimated to be losing $30 million this season.  With Jordan now owning the club, the NBA is hoping he can help boost ticket sales and TV ratings.  Once he starts doing that and getting more money back to the team, they can really start trying to improve on personnel.  I think this is a good thing for MJ, the Bobcats, and the NBA as a whole.
